Speaking with Purpose

As you may know – I am a speaker coach amongst other things.  But it may surprise you to know that teaching people to speak on stage is not actually my purpose.  My purpose is to help 10 million people to stop asking “Why me” and change that to “Why Not Me?” But why, and what does that mean?

It means, to fully embrace themselves and their own purpose so that they are speaking on purpose, living on purpose – which they can only do if they KNOW their purpose.

Speaking on purpose is a great way to share your purpose with the world and make a bigger difference, which is why I train world-class speakers.  But not everyone wants to speak on stage.

Here’s the thing though – everyone needs to find their purpose.

At the heart of many training and self-development programs are “mindset” and “purpose”, but almost none of those courses teaches you how to find your purpose.

And the thing is that once you HAVE found your purpose, everything in your life makes more sense.  Not only that but it relieves so much stress and makes life far more joyful.

Most people do not know their purpose.  Most people don’t even think about it in those terms, but they might think things like: “Is this it?  Is this all there is to life?” or “Why me”.  They may feel trapped or unhappy with where they are in life – their job or their relationship.  They may feel stuck. They may procrastinate and self-sabotage, because, subconsciously they are on the wrong path.

For many, they have spent their life to date trying to fit in.  They have focused on doing what they thought they “should” do.  They have prioritised the other people in their lives – children, partners, parents, friends.  And they have lost themselves.

Ask me how I know.

How I Found My Purpose

Not only have I seen this over and over again from the lovely souls in our Live Love Laugh Lounge, and my “How To Speak With….” group on Facebook, but that was me 10 or so years ago.

I was working in a steel box (literally – our company worked out of a shipping container) and I hated my job.  I couldn’t wait for Friday night where I could forget about work for a while, and I dreaded Monday mornings.  My best friends were Stella and Gordon (lager and gin).  I felt lost.  But I didn’t know I had the power to change anything.  I thought that was my lot.

Until I went to an event.  Where I met a guy whose words changed my life.  I joined his program and learned how to speak confidently on stage.

But here’s the thing.  It wasn’t about speaking.  Well, it was, but it was deeper than that.  Because in order to speak, you have to have something worth speaking about.  You have to know YOUR PURPOSE.

How Knowing Your Purpose Changes Your Life

I realised I wanted to help all the people who felt like me.  All the lost souls.  All those unhappy, restless, stuck but who don’t understand why. All the people who had – like me – ‘bought’ the idea that they were supposed to go down a different path.  All those who believed the lies – “money doesn’t grow on trees”, “you aren’t good enough, you don’t deserve anything else”, “to be successful you have to …..”

I want to help people understand that you are here for a purpose, you have just forgotten it.  I mean – think about it.  The chances of YOU being here is the same as the chance of 200 million people all throwing a double six at the same time….on trillion-sided dice.  Those are the odds.

Who Says There Has To Be Purpose?

In a Ted Talk, Mel Robbins announced that the odds of being born are one in 400 trillion.  Dr. Ali Binazir, who works at Harvard and has degrees from Berkeley and Cambridge, was in that audience in 2011. He took it a stage further.

He calculated the odds of your parent’s meeting, given the sheer volume of humans on Earth at any given time. Then he considered the chances of them having a child. Because that wasn’t enough, he also factored in the odds of your ancestor’s meeting. The chances of all your ancestors having lived to childbearing age – right back to Adam and Eve (or whatever the first humans were called).

He added in the odds of the right egg meeting the right sperm – so that you were born and not your brother or sister, and some other factors.   His conclusion was that the odds of you being alive are…. practically zero.

Is Everyone Here For A Purpose?

So, in my view, there has to be a reason you are here.  I believe every human being is here for a purpose, and it’s my job to help them find it.  And I have developed a system, tangible actionable steps to find your purpose.  It’s unique and I don’t see anyone else out there doing this.

The first step of this is understanding that people fall into one of 5 personality types.  Once you understand your personality type it’s like a lightbulb goes off in your head.  Suddenly you understand why you react certain ways to certain events or people.  It also helps you to understand others.

My mind was blown the first time I did this and realised I am an architect. More about what that means in a future blog –  but let’s just say – when I read about ‘architects’ everything made perfect sense.  And I discovered there was 1 thing I needed to stop doing, to make my life much happier.

When I did that one small thing, it was like I had waved a magic wand. Conflict more or less stopped, I felt appreciated and acknowledged.  It was so simple – but you don’t know what you don’t know, right?

Anyway – it is hard to explain and much easier just to show you, so if you would like to understand what type you are click here and prepare to be amazed at what your Genetic Blueprint says about you.
